The Story of Reeves Bow Ties
"Work Is Going Sew Well", is the title of a newspaper article published by the Dayton Daily Newspaper on October 16, 2001, about Sewliloquy, a custom Slipcover and Drapery Business owned and operated by Donna and Mark Reeves in Dayton, Ohio during the late 1990's through the early 2000's. While their business was a success, another business opportunity opened up in 2001 for the Reeves to apply their passion for clothing and fashion to designing men and women clothing accessories.
Donna Reeves' tall and long stature made shopping for clothes [that fit appropriately] difficult for her. Sewing since she was 12 years old, Donna has a special talent for pattern making. She was compelled to design clothing comparable to her tall and slender figure. Donna's specially designed women's and companion products are truly inspired originals.
Mark Reeves, a natural designer, is a clotheshorse. He believes that clothes are an art of self-expression, projecting a universal language familiar to all. Mark sports fashion standards from traditional fashion patterns, shapes and styles, often using the bow tie as a way to articulate his fashion perspective. He fully understands and recognizes that the impact of the illusion created by clothes is not an exact representation of the inner person, but a self-expression of the person they desire to be, reflected in their fashion statement.
A Great Combination
Imagine an avid admirer of the bow tie with a live-in bow tie maker. Like a kid in a candy store, Mark found himself wanting bow ties six days out of a week to wear to work and other occasions, asking for a bow tie each evening for the very next day. Of course, that didn't last long, and due to the poor selection of bow ties available, the Reeves decided to master the art of making bow ties and leverage its growing popularity.
One-of-a-Kind Designs
The Reeves have set out to update the look of the bow tie and bring it current with the 21st century fashion standards for men by combining different textures and fabric combination styles. Each and every Reeves Bow Tie is a one-of-a-kind, hand made piece of artwork. The signature designs are exclusive to Reeves Bow Ties, and are intended to allow the wearer to make an individual statement that cannot be replicated by anyone else. The different styles and shapes allow bow ties to be used for almost any occasion, from formal to business and casual attire alike.
Donna’s favorite place to shop for fabrics, Mulberry Silks & Fine Fabrics, in Carrboro, NC provided the location for some of the photos on this website.
Donna and Mark invite you to shop our Bow Ties by shape or style, companion products, ascots, and women's products. Please enjoy these one-of-a-kind creations as a means for self-expression.
